Research, AI, and Big Ideas: How the First Day of Innovation Week Went
18 May 2026
Today, Plekhanov University in Dubai kicked off a week dedicated to innovation, artificial intelligence, and the technologies of tomorrow — an event that brought business leaders, diplomats, researchers, and students together to discuss ideas that are already shaping the future.
At the start of the event, guests were asked to share
their associations with the word “science” — “innovation,” “the future,” “progress,” and “something that changes lives.” By the end of the first day of Innovation Week, we asked the guests their renewed impression; many said they felt “inspired,” discovered “exciting” ideas, and left with a deeper interest in artificial intelligence and modern research.
As part of the Innovation Week opening, Plekhanov University in Dubai presented a series of major research milestones and initiatives that underscore the university’s role in advancing innovation across the UAE and beyond.
Among them were:
* The inauguration of the university’s R&D Center
* A patented AI technology for cancer treatment, co-developed by two university faculty members
* A faculty member’s cybersecurity development currently undergoing the patenting process
* The first official presentation of the Neuroeconomics Research Center’s findings
And this is only the beginning — four more days of online sessions, workshops, and research await.
