Bridging Industries: Plekhanov University in Dubai Holds Expert Six Sigma Conference

6 February 2026

Plekhanov University in Dubai hosted a high-level Six Sigma Conference in partnership with the Six Sigma Institute, welcoming speakers from Emirates Airline, Dubai Police, American University of Sharjah and Ajman University. The conference explored real-world applications of Six Sigma and data-driven management, and marked the announcement of the UAE Six Sigma Council, strengthening the University’s position as a hub connecting academia and industry.

Dr. Svetlana Malkarova, Director of Plekhanov University in Dubai, opened the conference with welcoming remarks, setting the tone for the event:

“Here in Dubai, we prepare graduates who think strategically, act responsibly, and contribute meaningfully to organizations and society. Six Sigma is a methodology built on continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making, and these principles closely align with the way we design our academic programs.”

The conference was honored by the presence of His Excellency Maxim Vladimirov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Makar German, Deputy Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the United Arab Emirates. H.E. Maxim Vladimirov highlighted the role of academic institutions in fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing:

“In my work, I often see how cooperation between countries is shaped not only through official means, but through business, education, and the sharing of expertise. In this respect, academic institutions play an essential role. They create environments where professionals of different fields can collaborate around shared standards and approaches.”

Over the course of the day, the conference featured multiple presentations and a panel discussion involving six leading voices in Six Sigma from both academia and industry, including representatives from Dubai Police, Emirates Airline, and universities across the UAE. Topics covered ranged from practical Six Sigma implementation in aviation and public services to the adaptation of methodologies like DMAIC for complex organizational challenges. Attendees had the chance to engage with thought leaders and gain insights into data-driven approaches that can improve efficiency, standardize processes, and support sustainable business decision-making.

As a major highlight of the conference, Dr. Svetlana Malkarova announced a landmark initiative: in collaboration with Musa Arikat, Dubai Police, and the conference’s esteemed speakers, Plekhanov University in Dubai will establish the UAE Six Sigma Council. Overseen by Dr. Ali Abou Abbas, the Council will serve as a regional reference point for Six Sigma, supporting cross-sector collaboration and advancing the implementation of the methodology across the UAE.
Commenting on the conference’s significance, Dr. Musa Arikat shared:

“It was a great opportunity for sharing knowledge, exchanging information, and meeting experts from different industries. The announcement of a new council for Six Sigma – the first of its kind in the UAE – was a very great outcome of this conference.”

Ayda Sawaf, In-House Consulting Manager in Emirates Airline, shared her perspective on applying Six Sigma in practice:

“I use Six Sigma not just as a methodology, but as a way of thinking. For me, the most critical element is ensuring that improvements are sustained well beyond implementation, so results truly last.”

The event reflected Plekhanov University in Dubai’s ongoing commitment to acting as a bridge between Russia and the UAE in business and education.
