Plekhanov University in Dubai Celebrates Student Induction and First Anniversary

The new students of the 2025-2026 academic year have officially become part of the proud Plekhanov family. A symbolic student ID card was presented to them — representing their official entry into the student community and the beginning of a new stage in their lives — which took place at the official ceremony marking the first anniversary of Plekhanov University in Dubai.
 
The celebration opened with a welcoming address by Dr. Svetlana Malkarova, Director of Plekhanov University in Dubai, who emphasized:

“This is a special day for the Plekhanov community. Over the past year, our university has provided many opportunities for our students. Part of our mission is to continuously maintain high quality education, to provide students not only with opportunities to learn, but to also have a rich and interesting student life. As we close this formative year, I’m proud to say that we have remained true to this mission, and that we intend to build on this foundation in the coming years.”

Consul General of the Russian Federation in Dubai and Northern emirates, Maxim Vladimirov, also shared a warm speech commending the university, stating:

“It is a great pleasure to be here today to celebrate the induction of the new students at Plekhanov University in Dubai, and to celebrate its first anniversary. This is a remarkable milestone, and I'd like to take this opportunity to offer my warmest congratulations to the university leadership, faculty, and students. This achievement is not an isolated success, but a foundational step in the university's journey of extending the reach of Russian education in the GCC region.”

Following his speech, the Consul General presented Plekhanov University in Dubai with an appreciation letter on behalf of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Dubai as a sign of recognition for the university’s contribution to the development of the Russian academic community in the UAE.

Warm congratulations on the university’s first anniversary were also extended by Makar German, Deputy Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the UAE, Gleb Fomin, Managing Partner at Consigliere Group, Dr. Hasan Abu Ezza, Deputy Director for Administrative and Scientific Affairs at Plekhanov University in Dubai, and Dr. Ahmed Hamid, Professor of Information Technology at Plekhanov University in Dubai. The guests emphasized the importance of the university’s role in fostering international cooperation.
 
The ceremony continued with the student induction, during which the students received the symbolic ID card. The Director congratulated them on the beginning of their academic journey, wishing them success in their studies and inspiration to achieve both academic and personal goals. 

In response, the freshmen shared their impressions of their first month at the university, speaking about student life, their first classes, and the welcoming atmosphere on campus. They highlighted the friendliness of the community, the attentiveness of the professors, and the inspiring environment that defines Plekhanov University in Dubai.

During the ceremony, the Student Council election campaign was officially launched. The newly appointed council will represent students’ interests, promote project and volunteer activities, and strengthen communication between students and the university administration.

The guests enjoyed a short video presentation titled “One Year of Plekhanov University in Dubai,” followed by an interactive promenade through the campus where guests experienced an audio journey through the university’s history.
 
Amongst the distinguished guests was Mr. Ahmed Al Zarooni, a seasoned IT and Cybersecurity specialist, who highlighted the growing connections between Russia and the UAE in his speech, stating:

“I believe the relationship between the two countries — Russia and the UAE — is a flourishing relationship, based on a lot of common goals and values. There are collaborations in education, technology, and hospitality. It is a great honor for me to be here and witness how Plekhanov University in Dubai contributes to the academic landscape, bringing together talented and ambitious students.”

The celebration concluded with a meeting with the Advisory Board of Plekhanov University in Dubai, in which they set targets for the upcoming period, outlining key priorities and initiatives to guide the university’s continued growth.
