Plekhanov University in Dubai is pleased to announce the official opening of two new research centers: the Neuroeconomics Research Center and the Artificial Intelligence Research Center. These additions represent an important step in the university’s mission to strengthen its role as a hub of research excellence and innovation, and to expand its influence in the higher education sector in the UAE.
The centers will be led by two distinguished academics. Dr. Alex Jones, an expert in leadership with over 25 years of academic and professional experience, has been appointed Director of the Neuroeconomics Research Center. Dr. Ahmed Hamed, a prolific researcher and machine learning and AI algorithm development expert, has been appointed as Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center.
The Neuroeconomics Research Center will explore the neural and psychological foundations of economic behavior by merging neuroscience, psychology, and economics. Beyond producing high-impact publications, the center will develop academic modules and train the next generation of scholars, including Emirati researchers, and translate findings into practical policy recommendations and business strategies. With these initiatives, Plekhanov University in Dubai aims to establish itself as the leading hub for neuroeconomics research in the Middle East.
The Artificial Intelligence Research Center will publish cutting-edge AI and machine learning research, with a particular focus on applications in economics, business, and management. Aligned with the UAE’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, the center aims to become a premier Gulf research hub for AI innovation. Its objectives include developing high-impact projects such as financial risk prediction models, Arabic language AI tools, and creating educational programs tailored to business and professional audiences. Through partnerships with government entities, industry leaders, and academic institutions, the center seeks to drive tangible outputs including patents, prototypes, and startups.
