Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Rector Ivan Lobanov Appointed Chairman of UNESCO Chairs Coordination Committee

Ivan Lobanov, Rector of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, has been elected Chairman of the Coordination Committee of UNESCO Chairs during the Fifth All-Russian Congress of UNESCO Chairs. The appointment positions Lobanov at the helm of an initiative that promotes international cooperation across education, science, culture, and communications in higher education institutions.

UNESCO Chairs serve a critical role in fostering international academic partnerships and facilitating knowledge exchange between institutions worldwide. These chairs operate under the UNITWIN program, which has established a network of educational cooperation spanning multiple countries and disciplines. Since 2019, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics has hosted the UNESCO Chair “Societal, Legal and Ethical Frameworking of Knowledge Societies,” which focuses on supporting the academic community in developing and maintaining international relationships that advance educational objectives.

This prestigious appointment underscores the international recognition of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics as a leading institution in global academic cooperation. This recognition is further evidenced by the university’s ongoing international expansion, including the establishment of its official branch in Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Plekhanov University Dubai.

The UNITWIN program has enabled UNESCO Chairs to accumulate extensive expertise and best practices across various scientific fields. This collaborative framework has facilitated unique humanitarian research initiatives and strengthened global academic networks.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who chairs the Russian Federation’s UNESCO Commission, addressed Congress participants and emphasized that universities pursuing international humanitarian cooperation contribute to mutual understanding and stronger interstate relations.
