International Competition "Living Classics" at Plekhanov University in Dubai.
The final of the national stage of the international competition for young reciters, "Living Classics," took place at Plekhanov University in Dubai. Out of 236 participants from schools in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi, the top 10 young reciters showcased their talents by reciting works from renowned Russian and Soviet authors, including Anton Chekhov, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Yuri Bondarev, and Viktor Astafyev, among others. The heartfelt emotions, profound understanding of the texts, and artistry displayed by the children captivated both the audience and the jury.
The jury faced a challenging task in selecting the best among such remarkable talent. Each participant demonstrated extraordinary skill and a deep appreciation for their chosen works, making the decision particularly difficult.
The winners of the competition were Amalia Davudova, who recited "Girls from Vasilievsky Island" by Yuri Yakovlev; Shchichko Alexandra, with "Monologue of the Old Desk" by Anatoly Loginov; and Chistyukhina Elizaveta, who presented "When Angels Rest" by Marina Aromshtam. The winners received diplomas and will embark on a trip to Artek, where the international final of the competition will be held.
Elena Tarilova, chair of the jury and head of the Association of Russian Compatriots in the UAE, commented: "The 'Living Classics' competition brings together children and teenagers from various parts of the world who share a sincere love for their language, culture, and literature. It is heartening to see how the younger generation, raised in the era of artificial intelligence, can still feel deeply, think critically, and treat their native language and literary heritage with such care."
Svetlana Malkarova, Director of Plekhanov University in Dubai, addressed the participants: "You have successfully navigated several stages of this national recitation competition, competing against more than 200 contestants. You have already achieved victory! Today is a celebration of your talent and Russian literature! The essence of Russia is embedded in its literature, which you have expressed so emotionally!"
Galina Shknay, curator of the national stage of the competition, emphasized: "The goal of the 'Living Classics' competition is to instill a love of reading in young people and to restore Russia's status as one of the most literate nations in the world."
