Future Technologies Forum: Congress on Bioeconomy Cooperation

6 March

Concept: Congress on Bioeconomic Cooperation

Joint promotion of sustainable bioeconomy — a conference organized by the Forum of Future Technologies, hosted by the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in Dubai, brings together scientists, government officials, business leaders, and students from Russia, the UAE, and other countries. The purpose of the event is to support cooperation, showcase advanced scientific research, and stimulate dialogue on policy and investment between countries that view bioeconomy as a key to future prosperity. Russia and the UAE have already included bioeconomy among their strategic priorities. By combining expertise across national borders, the conference aims to demonstrate how biological sciences and innovations can contribute to economic growth while addressing global challenges in food, healthcare, and ecology. The opening sessions will highlight our shared vision: a sustainable, knowledge-based future built on responsible use of biological resources and joint innovation.

Concept: “Bioeconomy Connecting Continents for a Sustainable Future”

The overarching theme “Bioeconomy Connecting Continents for a Sustainable Future” reflects the shared interest of Russia, the UAE, and other countries in leveraging bioeconomic innovation for sustainable development. It emphasizes that despite differences in climate and economic models, countries are actively investing in bioeconomy to diversify their economies and ensure environmental and food security. Russia’s abundant natural resources and developing biotechnology sector complement the UAE’s vision of creating a knowledge-based, diversified economy and achieving food self-sufficiency. The theme sends a clear message: by combining their strengths, Russia, the UAE, and other nations can accelerate the development of bioeconomic innovations for mutual benefit and make a significant contribution to global sustainable development goals.

Key Topics of the Panel Session

  • Biotechnology and Medical Innovation: Exploring achievements in biomedicine, pharmaceuticals, and bioengineering that contribute to improving quality of life and economic growth. Topics include vaccine development, genomics, and precision medicine.
  • Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security: Addressing the challenge of feeding a growing population across diverse climatic conditions. Discussion of sustainable farming, hydroponics, smart irrigation, and agri-biotechnologies as tools for strengthening food security.
  • Circular Bioeconomy and Bio-Based Industries: Analysis of methods for converting biological resources and waste into high-value products. Focus areas include biomaterials, bioplastics, biofuels, and organic waste processing.
  • Renewable Resources and Green Energy in Bioeconomy: The role of renewable biological resources in sustainable energy and climate strategies, including biomass and algae-based fuels.
  • Environmental Policy and Strategy in Bioeconomy: Dialogue on public policy, regulation, and international cooperation. Comparison of national strategies and discussion of how joint regulatory measures and incentives can support bioeconomy growth.

Cooperation Opportunities Between the UAE and Russia in Bioeconomy

  • Joint Research and Innovation Centers: Establishing bilateral scientific hubs focused on agriculture in arid conditions, biotechnology incubators, and academic exchange.
  • Network of Innovation Hubs: Connecting innovation clusters in Russia and the UAE to support startup exchange programs, mentorship, and joint accelerators.
  • Cooperation in Policy and Human Capital Development: Harmonizing standards, creating compatible certification systems for bio-based products, and launching educational and professional programs.
